Motorola Moto G9 Play in for review

Another day, another new device at the office – this time we got the recently announced Motorola Moto G9 Play which is the international variant of the Motorola G9 launched in India. The big deal about this handset is its aggressive price, it comes in at just €169/$155 and covers most of the check boxes for a solid entry-level device.

The phone arrived in compact packaging with in-box contents consisting of a Type-C cable, 20W charging adapter and SIM ejection tool. Our review unit is in the Forest Green color and also came outfitted with a clear TPU case out the box. As for the in-hand feel, it’s nothing spectacular with plastic all around and mushy feeling buttons all located on the right-hand side.

The Snapdragon 662 sits at the helm paired with 4GB RAM and upon first testing, Motorola’s My UX interface over Android 10 feels responsive. The phone should be more than capable for daily tasks like browsing, chatting and watching videos

Turn the phone over and you’re greeted by a square plate housing three camera sensors and the LED flash. There’s a 48MP main sensor with and two 2MP sensors for depth and macro shots. The trademark moto dimple is also present and hosts the fingerprint scanner.

The key selling point with the G9 Play is “huge battery at a low price” and it delivers a 5,000mAh cell which combined with the power-efficient chipset and HD+ screen should last you throughout the day and even into a second day of action. Stay tuned for our detailed breakdown of the Moto G9 Play.

LG Wing goes official with swiveling design

LG is opening a new page in its smartphone history with the Wing 5G. The company felt that the current candybar smartphone design has been stagnant and could use a refresh with a swivel. We’ve seen phones with two screens and swiveling was a thing back in the early 2000s on several feature phones but LG is re-imaging how and what you can do with a secondary screen.

The LG Wing comes with a curved 6.8-inch P-OLED main display with FHD+ resolution and a 20.5:9 aspect ratio. The selfie camera is a 32MP pop-up solution. The secondary screen is a 3.9-inch G-OLED with FHD+ resolution and a 1.15:1 aspect ratio. As you can imagine there’s no official IP rating but the screens do come with a water repellent coating.

The big deal with the Wing is that you can use it as a regular phone if you so please but once you pop the main screen horizontally you get a whole new form factor with its own unique use-cases. LG is betting big on content consumption and is targeting the Wing at users who love watching videos on the go.

The Wing is powered by the Snapdragon 765G paired with 8GB RAM and 128/256GB storage. The battery comes in at 4,000 mAh and there’s also wireless charging support on board.

LG did not reveal pricing details but the Wing will come to the US on Verizon first, followed by AT&T and T-Mobile. There’s no exact release date though LG will reveal more details soon.

One Plus Leak

One Plus hints at 4 upcoming smartphones including One Plus 8T, One Plus 8T Pro

The “Tips & Support” pages of the OnePlus 8T, OnePlus 8T Pro, two new Nord smartphones, and a mysterious device codenamed SS9806 have been found on OnePlus’s official website. These URLs were found by serial tipster Evan Blass over at guide.oneplus.com. These pages display the product names and model numbers of the five aforementioned devices

As far as specifications go, the OnePlus 8T is expected to feature a Snapdragon 855+ SoC, a 120Hz AMOLED display, and 65W fast charging. Additionally, the smartphone is rumored to feature a quad rear camera system. This is set to include a 48-megapixel main camera. This will be paired with a 16-megapixel ultrawide lens, a 5-megapixel macro shooter, and a 2-megapixel depth sensor.

Poco X3 NFC

The Poco X3 NFC, the second mid-range phone in the family, is here and it brings incremental improvements over the X2. The Snapdragon 732G chipsetmakes its debut with the X3, and while nothing really stands out in the spec sheet, that is not exactly a criticism – this phone launched at just €200.

The screen is as before, 6.67” LCD with 120Hz refresh rate and HDR10, plus Gorilla Glass 5. The camera has a more attractive design, but is otherwise the same combo of a large 64MP main sensor, ultrawide (13MP, up from 8MP) then two more modules that add little value.

The battery shows similar improvements too – the capacity grew to 5,160 mAh (up from 4,500 mAh) but the time it takes to achieve a full charge remained the same, an hour and a few minutes.
